IOUG - Security Patching Practices Survey Report

Results from the Security Patching Practices Survey are now available. This joint survey from the IOUG and Oracle provided information about security patching practice of Oracle users.

Click here to download the pdf report.

The purpose of this report is to provide feedback to Oracle on behalf of the IOUG members. We gained understanding of practices, challenges were identified and specific recommendations were presented to Oracle to further increase the effectiveness of the Critical Patch Update process. Opportunities are available to learn more about security best practices and specifically about the Critical Patch Update processes through the IOUG at Collaborate 09 as well as upcoming webcasts.

Also check out the following blogs for discussions about the results of the Security Patching Survey.

Oracle Enterprise Linux Links

This SIG is dedicated to Oracle software running on all flavors of Linux, but on October 29, Elena Zannoni from Oracle did a webinar outlining some information on Oracle's release schedules and testing.  As part of that presentation, Elena listed several URL's with further information.

Open source software is now part of doing business for a majority of Oracle enterprise database sites. A new survey out of the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) finds that 60 percent of database sites now use open source operating systems in their operations. Another 56 percent are running an open source application server or framework, and 37 percent are also running at least one of the major brands of open source databases along with their Oracle implementation. The Linux SIG is dedicated to both facilitating and promoting the use of the Oracle database and other Oracle technology on the Linux platform. The Linux SIG provides a forum of open discussion and education of Oracle related issues associated with using Linux in conjunction with an Oracle database. We recognize that using Linux in conjunction with Oracle provides additional and different challenges to the administration of an Oracle database.

The Linux SIG provides a mechanism for sharing our collective expertise in the implementation of Oracle on Linux and a collective voice to advocate for Oracle Corporation to continue its initiative toward making Linux a strategic platform for all of its products.
