Session1
Title: DDBoost for Enterprise Apps integrated w/ RMAN
Presented by EMC

In the past Oracle DBAs were being asked to rely on IT for backup and recovery via a backup application. If this didn't meet their SLAs, they would use their own backup utility (RMAN), to backup to whatever disk was available even if it was expensive primary storage. EMC provides application owners direct control of backup to Data Domain (PBBA - Purpose Built Backup Appliance). Distributing parts of the de-duplication process to the application server, enables client-side de-duplication for faster backups. By also giving the owner control of the recovery process through native utilities, he/she does not need to go through the Backup Administration, enabling faster recovery. Join us for a technical deep dive on DDBoost RMAN backups.

Session 2
Title: Never Let 'em See You Sweat, 12c Application Continuity in Action
Presented by Sean Braymen, Senior Database Administrator, National Instruments

It is often difficult for application developers to mask the loss of a database session. This often leads unclear error messaging surfacing to end users resulting in frustration or confusion. Introduced in Oracle Database 12c, Application Continuity improves the user experience by replaying in-flight transactions, hiding outages from end users and the application. This presentation will be an introduction to this new feature, taking a look at what's required to turn on Application Continuity and the things to be considered before using it for an application, as well as demos for common scenarios.

Lunch and door prize sponsored by EMC!! Apple TV Giveaway!
