BIWA Wednesday TechCast Series - 26th Event!
Lies, Damned Lies and SQL Statistical Functions
    Rob Rolek - Rolta TUSC

Firemen are usually around when there is a large fire. The more firemen at a location, the larger the fire. Therefore firemen cause fires, right? Some assertions like this one are intuitively false. But what happens when you see a relationship in your business data. How do you make sure you don't make the wrong call? The Oracle database standard edition provides standard statistical functions to test hypotheses. It also provides common statistical functions that you may have forgotten from your college STAT 101 class, but are available to you and could be useful. This session will provide a primer of the Oracle Statistical Functions along with real world examples of when they apply.

Presenter: Rob Rolek, of Rolta TUSC consulting, has worked in application development and business systems integration for 17 years. He has worked in technical, sales, management and analyst roles with a variety of industries and technologies.  Rob earned a B.S. in Statistics and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992.

Thanks to all participants at "Get Analytical with BIWA Training Days" at COLLABORATE 10!
Thanks to the hundreds of BI professionals who  participated at our national conference April 18-22 in Las Vegas!  With over 60 technical talks, hands on labs, a deep dive, a BIWA reception and a BI Boot Camp, this event was a great successor to the BIWA Summits of 2008 and 2007.

BIWA is giving an Apple iPOD Touch to the best new presenter.  Be part of the TechCast series and get a chance to win!  Note that the contest is limited to new presenters, to encourage fresh participation by the BIWA community.

BIWA invites all Oracle professionals (experts, end users, managers, DBAs, developers, data analysts, ISVs, partners, etc.) to submit abstracts for 45 minute technical webcasts to our Oracle BIWA (IOUG SIG) Community in our Wednesday TechCast series. To submit an abstract, you need to be a BIWA SIG member.

Our audience is technical so BIWA Wednesday TechCasts presenters are encouraged to include a significant amount of technical detail. Live demos are strongly encouraged. Each BIWA TechCast starting this Spring will be recorded and posted on the BIWA web site for on-demand viewing.   TechCasts will be selected based on the interest to the BIWA community of data analysts, business analysts, line of business (LOB) managers, application developers, architects and DBAs.
